Before ordering your fencing supplies, you need to accurately measure your perimeter so that you buy the right number of panels, posts, and other accessories.

Betafence makes this process easy! With our convenient fence configurator, you can quickly and accurately calculate the exact materials needed for installation.

Here’s how to do it.

Choose Your Measurement Method

When using the configurator, there are two ways you can measure your fence perimeter.

  1. Google Maps Fence Configurator:

This useful tool lets you digitally map the line of your proposed fence using satellite imagery. This option is great for getting a quick estimate, especially on bigger properties.

  1. Manual Measurement:

This method requires you to physically measure the perimeter and then enter the values into the configurator. This option is more difficult but is more precise.

Measuring With Google Maps

If you choose to use the Google Maps fence configurator, the first thing you'll need to do is enter your address and zoom in on the map to find your property. Then, click on the starting point of your fence line and continue using the tool to click along the perimeter until you've made a complete outline of it.

Once you've done this, the configurator will calculate the total length of the fence based on your clicks. This will then give you an estimate of how much material you'll need. However, it's recommended that you manually confirm these measurements before making a purchase.

Measurements Manually

Measuring manually will give you a more accurate result.

To do this, you will need to use measuring tape or, ideally, a measuring wheel to walk the full perimeter and measure every metre of where the fence is to be installed. With this method, mark the locations of gates, corners, and any other obstacles that may affect the installation, and then record the total length in metres. Also, make sure that you consider any height variations if you have slopes or uneven ground on your property.

With these measurements in hand, you can enter them into the Betafence configurator, along with which fencing product you’d prefer, to then calculate exactly how many panels, posts, and accessories are required to build your fence.
