Betafence’s EasyView system provides you with a simple and cost-effective solution to perimeter security. Our fencing system has anti-corrosive properties and ant-climb technology that helps you protect what matters most to you! There are many different types of applications for the EasyView system used by homeowners and business owners around the world.

The main component of our fencing system is our wire mesh panels. They come in two different heights (1.14m and 1.7m) and have uniform dimensions of apertures of 38x152mm. The width of these panels is 2480mm. These panels can be bought here on Betafence South Africa’s website, but it is very important that you buy the right number of panels for your particular application and property.

Buying too few panels may leave you with a large gap in your fence while you hop online to order more ‒ certainly a waste of time. On the other hand, ordering too many panels could leave you with unnecessary leftovers that may be difficult to sell or even get rid of, and you would have wasted money.

In this article, we’ll provide you with a clear and concise guideline on how to work out how many panels as well as how many posts you’ll need for your EasyView system.

First Step: Measuring Your Perimeter

If you want to ensure that you order the correct number of panels, you need to order your perimeter accurately. This is a very important step, and you should take your time and even double-check your results to make certain that you reach the same number.

Measuring Your Perimeter With Google Maps

Google Maps makes measuring your boundary very easy. All you do is open Google Maps on your PC or laptop. Find your location and change to satellite view. Next, click right and choose the ‘measure distance’ option. Now you can create a fence line with multiple corners that will be measured for you by Google.

This tool is particularly helpful if you have a very large property and don’t want to walk your property line.

Measuring Your Perimeter Manually

If you want to measure the area that you want to enclose with your EasyView system manually, you’re going to need a few things, namely:

  • Measuring tape
  • Builder’s line
  • Stakes

Decide upon the route you want to take with your fence around your property, using the builder’s line and stakes to mark it out the fence line. Now take your measuring tape and measure this line to get the total length of your perimeter.

It would be a good idea to actually use both methods and see whether your results are the same.

Further Tips For Measuring Your Perimeter

You need to keep in mind two main things when measuring your perimeter. First, you need to be 100% certain of your property line. You should know exactly where your property line ends and where your neighbours’ begin. If you begin building a fence that encroaches on your neighbours’ property, even just by a small amount, you may find that you need to bring the whole thing down.

Second, you need to be aware of the obstacles in the path of your fence. Do you have any big trees, swings, fountains or other obstacles on your property? You’re either going to have to have them removed or find a way for your fence to enclose these items or go through them or around them. Take care with the path that you choose. Any trees right next to your fence on the outside may provide intruders with an opportunity to get into your property.

Deciding On Whether You Want A Gate

Whether or not you get a gate with your system will determine the number of panels you’ll need. This is because the width of the gate needs to be subtracted by the total length of the perimeter before it is divided by the panel length.

Here at Betafence, we offer two different Pedestrian gates. The taller gate is 1.7 metres high, while the shorter gate is 1.145 metres high. Each gate comes with a hinged post and a locked post and is 1.2metres wide.

Whether or not you want a gate for easy pedestrian access to and from your property is completely up to you. So think about the pros and cons carefully before making a final decision.

Once you have the total length of your perimeter as well as whether or not you want to include a gate, we can start working out how many panels you need to order for your EasyView system!

Working Out How Many Panels You’ll Need Without The Inclusion Of A Gate

If you choose not to get a gate, working out how many panels you need for your EasyView system is fairly easy and straightforward. In fact, it is a rather simple maths equation, but we do recommend using a calculator to double-check your answers.

What you do is take the total length of your perimeter in millimetres and divide it by the length of the panels (2520mm) and then round up to get how many panels you require.

Let’s have a look at an example. Let’s say that your perimeter is 26 metres.

26 metres= 26000 mm

26000mm / 2520mm = 10.317

10.317 rounded up is 11

Therefore, you will need 11 panels to complete your EasyView system installation.

Working Out How Many Panels You’ll Need If You Are Including A Gate

The equation is slightly more complex when working with a gate, but it is still very straightforward and easy to do. Just ensure that you have the right perimeter distance to get an accurate result.

When working out the number of panels you’ll need with the inclusion of a gate, the first thing you do is subtract the length of the gate (1230mm) from the total perimeter length. Once you have this number, you can divide it by the length of the panels (2520mm) to get the number of panels that you’ll need.

Let’s look at an example again. Say the total distance of your perimeter is 26 metres.

26 metres= 26000mm

26000mm- 1230mm = 24770mm

24770mm/ 2520mm= 9.8

9.8 rounded up is 10

So you will need 10 panels to complete your project.

What if you want to include two gates? Well, that is simple too! Simply minus the length of two gates (2460mm) from the total perimeter amount before dividing it by the number of panels. And this process would be the same for three or even more gates.

What Else You Will Need From Betafence Besides Panels

Now that you know the number of panels that you need for your EasyView installation, it’s time to start looking at some of the other things you may need to order from Betafence. Of course, if you want to order a gate, you can get your gate from the Betafence website.

The other thing you will need is posts. The posts are what really hold the panels in place and give them stability. The posts are also anti-corrosive and very durable. Each post comes with a post cap, which will be hammered in to prevent any water from getting inside the hollow posts.

The last thing you’ll need to buy is fixators. These are what help with fixing your panels to the posts. These fixators, also known as clamps, have a very specialised design and are responsible for the quick and easy installation that makes EasyView such a popular system.

Working Out How Many Posts You Need

Just as it is important to order the right number of panels, it is also very important to order the correct number of posts. It is very easy to make a mistake, but it is also just as easy to ensure that you order the right number of products the first time around.

With a Gate

If you are including one gate in your system, you will need the exact number of posts as panels. So if you have 10 panels, you will need 10 posts.

Without A Gate

If you do not include a gate in your EasyView system, then you will need one more post than you need panels. So if you need 10 panels to cover your perimeter, you will need 11 posts.

Working Out How Many Fixators You’ll Need

Now that you know how many posts you require for your EasyView system, you can easily work out how many fixators you’ll need.

1.2m system

If you are making use of the 1.2m high system, you will need three fixators for every post.

Therefore if you require 10 posts, you will require 30 fixators.

1.7m system

If you are making use of the taller, 1.7m system, then for every post, you will need four fixators.

So if you require 10 posts, you will need 40 fixators!

What If The Last Panel Is Too Long?

Because you need to round up the number of panels you need, you could be left in a situation where the last panel of the system is too long to fit properly. In this case, you will need to cut the panel to the correct size.

On the panel, you will notice vertical rods through the mesh framework. Try to cut as close to one of the vertical rods as possible. You can use industrial side cutters or a grinder with the right sized disc to cut the panel.

You may need to add a touch-up coat of paint to where you cut the last panel to prevent any corrosion from taking place.

Be careful when cutting the panel, and use the relevant safety equipment.

What About Corners?

The number of corners that you have on your perimeter line will not affect the number of panels, posts and fixators you need to order. So long as you include these corners as part of your measurement.

The fixators developed by Betafence make attaching panels to the post at any angle incredibly simple.

The Different Panel Options

You have two options available when it comes to panels: The 1.2m high version and the 1.7m high version. Once again, this is a choice of personal preference. Of course, the higher panels do offer your property more protection, so that is something worth thinking about.
